A Bachelor degree is usually an undergraduate academic degree. It's the first step of your higher education at university or college and will last three or four years in most cases. For some courses and in some countries, a bachelor degree may however take up to six years to complete. If you have just graduated from your secondary education, you will in most cases be eligible to start your bachelor education at a university, college or other qualified institution.
Although the basic definition of a bachelor degree is relatively set, there are plenty of variations and exceptions to the rule. For example, there are some cases in which a bachelor degree denotes a post graduate degree - commonly a Bachelor of Civil Law, Bachelor of Music or the Bachelor of Philosophy. In most of Europe however, the adaptation of the Bologna Convention means that bachelor degrees generally conform to a standard of three or four years of study within a chosen field.
